The New York Knicks on Tuesday confirmed five previously reported additions, moving closer to a full 21-man preseason roster.
Veteran guards Malcolm Brogdon and Landry Shamet finalized Exhibit 9 contracts, while forward Mohamed Diawara, wing Garrison Mathews and forward Tosan Evbuomwan signed Exhibit 10 deals. The club had already added rookies Dink Pate and Bryson Warren on Exhibit 10 agreements earlier in the week.
According to The New York Post, New York has also reached a training-camp agreement with 12-year center Alex Len, the No. 5 pick in the 2013 draft. Len split last season between the Kings and Lakers, appearing in 46 games and averaging 1.6 points and 2.1 rebounds in 8.3 minutes.
The Knicks now have 19 players under contract and remain expected to re-sign veteran wing Matt Ryan on a non-guaranteed deal. A two-way qualifying offer also remains on the table for rookie guard Kevin McCullar Jr.
Because NBA teams may carry only 21 players in camp, at least one current Knick would have to be waived to accommodate both Len and Ryan. League sources anticipate Pate and Warren being released and routed to the G League’s Westchester Knicks, while Brogdon, Shamet and Mathews are viewed as leading contenders for an opening-night roster spot. Diawara holds an inside track to a standard contract due to the club’s hard-cap constraints, and Evbuomwan could see his Exhibit 10 converted to a two-way slot.
