The New York Knicks are evaluating several free-agent veterans before training camp opens, according to a report from SNY’s Ian Begley.

Shooter Matt Ryan, who logged a brief stint with the Knicks last season, is among the frontrunners. The 6-7 wing is regarded as one of the top remaining floor-spacers on the market.

Veteran center Alex Len impressed the club during a recent workout, Begley added. Undrafted big man Trey Jemison III is also under consideration to boost front-court depth.

In back-court discussions, guard Dennis Smith Jr. drew favorable reviews after informal scrimmages at the team facility this week, highlighting his on-ball defense and up-tempo playmaking.

New York already holds non-guaranteed agreements with Malcolm Brogdon, Landry Shamet and Garrison Mathews. Because of apron limitations, the Knicks can keep only one of those three into the regular season unless they shed salary via trade.

Bringing Ryan, Len or Jemison into camp would intensify competition for the final roster slots as the club enters the last phase of its offseason evaluations.
