The Minnesota Timberwolves have re-signed free-agent guard Bones Hyland, according to the NBA’s official transaction log.

The agreement was recorded on September 15, three days after Hyland turned 25. Contract terms were not released, but the deal is expected to be for the veteran minimum and could include non-guaranteed or partially guaranteed money, as previously reported.

Hyland ended the 2024-25 season on a two-way contract with Minnesota following a brief stint in Atlanta, where he was waived shortly after being acquired at the trade deadline. The 6’2” combo guard appeared in just four NBA games for the Timberwolves and 20 for the Los Angeles Clippers, averaging 6.2 points and 1.3 assists in 10.0 minutes while shooting .398 from the field, .390 from three and .885 at the foul line.

Team president of basketball operations Tim Connelly has a long-standing connection with Hyland, having selected him 26th overall in the 2021 draft while overseeing the Denver Nuggets. During a season and a half in Denver, Hyland posted 10.9 points per game and hit 37.1 percent of his three-pointers, flashes that were offset by defensive concerns and dissatisfaction with his role. The Nuggets traded him to the Clippers at the 2023 deadline after Connelly’s departure.

Hyland never gained traction in Los Angeles, totaling 71 appearances over two years with averages of 7.8 points on .392/.349/.812 shooting. A February trade to the Hawks, part of a larger swap involving Terance Mann and Bogdan Bogdanović, led to his release and eventual signing with Minnesota in March.

With Hyland back in the fold, the Timberwolves now have 14 players under standard contracts and remain about $5.9 million below the NBA’s second tax apron, leaving room to add a 15th player or invite additional camp competitors if Hyland’s contract lacks full guarantees.
