The New Orleans Pelicans have reached an agreement to hire Jamahl Mosley as their next head coach on a five-year contract, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Team executives maintained regular contact with Mosley after his dismissal from the Orlando Magic on May 4, which followed the Magic’s first-round playoff exit. Discussions continued face to face during last week’s draft combine in Chicago.
Franchise officials view their current circumstances as comparable to Orlando’s in 2021, when Mosley assumed control after a 21-61 season. Over three seasons, he guided the Magic back to the postseason while emphasizing a top-tier defense—an approach New Orleans hopes he can replicate.
