Oklahoma City, May 17, 2026 — Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has secured the league’s Most Valuable Player trophy for the second consecutive season, according to sources familiar with the voting.

The NBA plans to reveal the 2025-26 MVP officially Sunday at 7:30 p.m. ET on Prime Video.

Gilgeous-Alexander, 27, becomes only the fifth active player to earn back-to-back MVP honors, joining Nikola Jokić, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Stephen Curry and LeBron James, who has accomplished the feat twice. Every retired player who won in consecutive years — a group that includes Steve Nash, Tim Duncan, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Moses Malone, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell — is enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame.

This season’s other finalists were Jokić and San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama. Oklahoma City meets San Antonio in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals Monday night at Paycom Center.

Gilgeous-Alexander finished second in the league in scoring with 31.1 points per game while shooting a career-best 55.3% from the field. He also posted a personal-high 6.6 assists for the 64-18 Thunder, who owned the NBA’s best record for the second straight year.

The reigning Finals MVP also captured the Clutch Player of the Year award after leading the league with 175 points in clutch situations, 16 go-ahead clutch field goals and a plus-93 clutch plus-minus.

This marks the fourth consecutive season the Canadian guard has placed inside the top five of MVP voting. He was fifth in 2022-23, runner-up in 2023-24 and has now collected the honor in back-to-back campaigns. During that span, he became the first player since Jordan to average at least 30 points in four straight seasons.
