The New York Knicks enter the Eastern Conference finals with several pivotal storylines, headlined by center Mitchell Robinson’s impending unrestricted free agency.

Robinson tops summer to-do list

Team officials view retaining Robinson as a primary offseason objective after another productive postseason, according to The New York Post. Guard Miles McBride praised the 28-year-old center’s growth, saying, “When it’s time for him to show up, he shows up.”

Re-signing Robinson would likely push New York above the second tax apron in 2026/27. League sources told the Post that the Sacramento Kings could make a competitive bid; general manager Scott Perry drafted Robinson for New York in 2018 and may consider shedding salary to reunite with the rim protector.

Anunoby completes full practice

Forward OG Anunoby practiced without restrictions on Friday for the first time since straining his hamstring in Game 2 of the second-round sweep of Philadelphia. His participation puts him on track for Tuesday’s conference-final opener, set after Detroit eliminated Cleveland in Game 6.

Towns flourishes in playmaking role

Karl-Anthony Towns credited head coach Mike Brown for shifting him from primary scorer to facilitator during the first round against Atlanta, a change that has continued into the current postseason. “I’ve always wanted this role,” Towns said, noting that the tweak has sparked the team’s best stretch of the year.

The Knicks replaced Tom Thibodeau with Brown last offseason seeking a new direction. Brown has guided the club to seven straight playoff wins and, by captain Jalen Brunson’s account, encourages input before making final decisions. “We give our opinions, and whether they’re good or bad, they’re talked about,” Brunson said.
