An anonymous eBay bidder has agreed to pay $9,000,100 for a private lunch next month with Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry and longtime investor Warren Buffett.
The charity auction closed Thursday night, reviving a tradition Buffett began in 2000 to benefit San Francisco’s GLIDE Foundation. This edition will also support the Currys’ Eat.Learn.Play. Foundation, which the couple launched in 2019.
Buffett, 95, pledged to match the winning offer, doubling the total that will be split between the two nonprofits. The meal is scheduled to take place in Buffett’s hometown of Omaha, Nebraska.
Since 2008, every winning bid for Buffett’s lunch auctions has exceeded $1 million. The event was paused during the pandemic and formally ended after a record $19 million bid in 2022. A one-off 2024 auction with Salesforce co-founder Marc Benioff raised $1.5 million, but Buffett later asked the Currys to help bring back the lunch this year.
Buffett stepped down as Berkshire Hathaway’s chief executive in January after six decades at the helm but remains the company’s chairman. Curry missed 27 games this NBA season before returning to aid Golden State’s late-season push.
