Malik Beasley Says He Wants Another Stint With Pistons

Shooting guard Malik Beasley remains interested in rejoining the Detroit Pistons next season, even as his playing future is clouded by an ongoing federal gambling investigation.

“It’s definitely a place I want to be,” Beasley told reporters after Detroit’s postseason loss to the Knicks. “To be here, my mom’s hometown, I grew up here a lot in the summertime. To be able to perform in front of this city is huge and I’m glad I got a chance to do that.”

Beasley, 28, became just the fifth player in NBA history to convert 300 three-pointers in a single season and finished second in the 2024-25 Sixth Man of the Year voting during his lone campaign with the Pistons. Team officials had entered the summer planning to offer the veteran a three-year, $42 million contract, but the gambling probe led Detroit to pivot, adding Caris LeVert and acquiring Duncan Robinson in a sign-and-trade instead.

Attorney Steve Haney said Beasley is still eager to explore a return. “If there’s a pathway, he would like to be considered to play for Detroit again next season,” Haney stated. “I’m not his agent, so I don’t know the level of mutual interest or available money, but he has a lot of love for Detroit.”

The Pistons currently hold 13 fully guaranteed contracts and a partially guaranteed deal for Javonte Green. Because Detroit possesses Beasley’s Non-Bird rights, the club could offer a multi-year agreement starting at approximately $7.2 million annually. A four-year pact under those terms would total about $31 million—at least $11 million less than the offer the guard initially expected.

The Cavaliers, Knicks, and Timberwolves had previously shown interest, though New York has since filled its camp roster with fellow perimeter shooters Landry Shamet, Malcolm Brogdon, and Garrison Mathews, and reportedly plans to keep at least two of them.
