Los Angeles — Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander said he was “very impressed” by LeBron James after the Thunder swept the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference Semifinals.
The series ended Monday night at Crypto.com Arena, sending Oklahoma City to the Western Conference Finals for the second consecutive season. Despite the 4-0 result, the 41-year-old James averaged 23.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 1.3 steals while shooting 50.0% from the field.
“It’s amazing what he’s doing at this age,” Gilgeous-Alexander said postgame. “He was the top of the scouting report all series. I’m not sure we’ll see that kind of longevity again.”
Los Angeles played the series without injured superstar Luka Dončić. Aside from James, the Lakers’ most consistent stretches came from Austin Reaves in Games 2 and 4 and spot-up shooting by Rui Hachimura. Neither matched James’ overall impact.
The loss ushers in a pivotal offseason for the Lakers. James, entering unrestricted free agency after 23 NBA seasons, declined to commit to returning and said he will weigh his options with his family. Reports indicate mutual interest in a new contract, but retirement is also under consideration.
