Grizzlies Mourn Death of Forward Brandon Clarke at 29

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — May 12, 2026 — The Memphis Grizzlies announced Tuesday the death of forward Brandon Clarke, who was 29 years old.

“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Brandon Clarke,” the organization said in a written statement. “Brandon was an outstanding teammate and an even better person whose impact on the organization and the greater Memphis community will not be forgotten. We express our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver also issued a statement: “We are devastated to learn of the passing of Brandon Clarke. As one of the longest-tenured members of the Grizzlies, Brandon was a beloved teammate and leader who played the game with enormous passion and grit. Our thoughts and sympathies are with Brandon’s family, friends and the Grizzlies organization.”

Clarke was selected 21st overall in the 2019 NBA Draft and spent his entire seven-season career with Memphis. He averaged 10.2 points and 5.5 rebounds and earned a spot on the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2019-20. Injuries limited him to two games last season.

No cause of death has been announced.
