MINNEAPOLIS — The San Antonio Spurs were in front of the Minnesota Timberwolves 43-38 with 3:59 left in the second quarter Thursday night in Game 3 of the Western Conference semifinals.
The series is tied 1-1, and the action at Target Center is streaming on Prime Video. San Antonio entered the contest 62-20 overall and 29-12 on the road, while Minnesota came in 49-33 with a 26-15 home mark.
Early leaders
San Antonio: Rookie center Victor Wembanyama paced the Spurs with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting and pulled down nine rebounds. Guard Stephon Castle added seven points, and Devin Vassell and Keldon Johnson chipped in six apiece.
Minnesota: Anthony Edwards matched Wembanyama with 15 points, hitting 5-of-10 from the field. Rudy Gobert had six points and two rebounds, and Julius Randle scored six.

San Antonio shot 40 percent (16-for-40) from the floor and 20 percent (3-for-15) from behind the arc. Minnesota connected on 30 percent (12-for-40) overall and 24 percent (4-for-17) from three-point range. The Spurs opened a 15-point cushion early, but Minnesota narrowed the gap behind Edwards’ scoring surge. A 7-foot pull-up by Castle, assisted by Johnson, restored a six-point San Antonio lead at the 4:09 mark. Seconds later, Jaden McDaniels hit one of two free throws, trimming the deficit to five before a timeout with 3:59 remaining in the half.
