Dallas — The Dallas Mavericks have brought in former ESPN draft analyst Mike Schmitz to serve as the team’s new general manager, according to a report published Tuesday.

The move places Schmitz in charge of the Mavericks’ day-to-day basketball operations, including roster construction and talent evaluation. Before entering NBA front offices, he built a reputation at ESPN for his in-depth scouting of college, G League and international prospects.

The organization has not yet released details on the length or financial terms of Schmitz’s agreement.

He replaces the previous leadership structure overseen by team president Nico Harrison, who is expected to continue guiding overall basketball strategy while Schmitz focuses on the draft and player personnel.

No timetable was provided for Schmitz’s official start date, but the hiring places him in position to help steer Dallas through the upcoming NBA draft and free-agency periods.
