OG Anunoby Listed Day-to-Day With Right Hamstring Strain

New York Knicks forward OG Anunoby has been diagnosed with a right hamstring strain and is considered day-to-day, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The club has listed him as questionable for Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals, scheduled for Friday in Philadelphia.

Anunoby, 28, exited Wednesday’s Game 2 after an awkward landing on a missed dunk with just over three minutes remaining. Video showed him briefly reaching for the back of his right leg before signaling to the bench and limping off the court.

The day-to-day designation indicates a relatively mild strain. More severe hamstring injuries can sideline players for extended periods; Mavericks guard Luka Dončić, for example, has missed time since April 2 with a Grade 2 strain. Even a mild strain typically requires several days to two weeks of recovery, as illustrated by Thunder forward Jalen Williams, who has not played since April 22 while recovering from a Grade 1 strain.

Anunoby is averaging a team-high 35.3 minutes per game this postseason. If he cannot play Friday, head coach Mike Brown will likely expand guard Miles McBride’s role and rely more heavily on wings Josh Hart and Mikal Bridges. Additional minutes could also fall to Landry Shamet, Jordan Clarkson, and Jose Alvarado.

The Knicks hold a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. As the matchup shifts to Wells Fargo Center, New York aims to avoid giving the 76ers momentum after Philadelphia erased a 3-1 deficit in the opening round.
