Trail Blazers Eye Giannis Antetokounmpo, Consider Anthony Davis as Backup Plan

The Portland Trail Blazers are expected to pursue a blockbuster trade for Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo this offseason, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line. It is the second time in recent weeks that Portland has been tied to the two-time MVP.

New franchise owner Tom Dundon, who gained a reputation for aggressive roster building with the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes, reiterated during his introductory press conference that he intends to be “more aggressive than most” when chasing elite talent. General manager Joe Cronin echoed that stance after the trade deadline, noting the club is willing to make a major move if the price is right.

Potential Trade Framework

Fischer reported that any Portland proposal for Antetokounmpo would likely center on forward Jerami Grant, who is owed about $70.6 million over the next two seasons, along with additional contracts to match salary. Convincing Antetokounmpo to commit long term could be challenging, as Portland is not believed to be among his top preferred destinations.

Anthony Davis Listed as Alternative Target

If talks for Antetokounmpo stall, Portland could turn its attention to Anthony Davis, now with the Washington Wizards. Davis has surfaced in trade rumors once again, and NBA insider Chris Haynes told SiriusXM NBA Radio on April 30, 2026, that there is “a good chance” the forward-center could be dealt before the 2026-27 season begins.

No formal offers have been reported for either star, but league observers expect Portland to remain active as the offseason approaches.
