Lakers guard Austin Reaves is hopeful he will be available for Wednesday night’s Game 5 of Los Angeles’ first-round series against the Houston Rockets, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Reaves, sidelined since sustaining an oblique strain on April 2, had originally been projected to miss four to six weeks. A return on Wednesday would put him just inside that timetable. He was listed as questionable for Games 3 and 4 before being downgraded to out each time; Charania reports his status will again be a game-time decision.
Before the injury, the 25-year-old averaged a career-best 23.3 points on .490/.360/.871 shooting in 51 regular-season appearances, along with 5.5 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 1.1 steals.
Los Angeles leads the best-of-seven series 3-1, guaranteeing at least three more postseason games. Head coach JJ Redick said fellow backcourt starter Luka Doncic, out since April 2 with a hamstring strain, has begun limited on-court work but “still isn’t moving around much.” His return date remains uncertain.
