The NBA has penalized Marcus Smart and Luke Kennard for confronting officials after the Los Angeles Lakers’ 115-96 loss to the Houston Rockets in Game 4 of their first-round series.
The league announced Monday that Smart was fined $35,000 for “questioning the integrity of game officials,” while Kennard received a $25,000 fine for “directing inappropriate language toward game officials.” The statement was issued by James Jones, the NBA’s executive vice president and head of basketball operations.
Game 4, played Sunday in Houston, featured three ejections and five technical fouls split between the teams before the Rockets earned their first win of the series.
Los Angeles still leads the matchup 3-1 and will host Game 5 on Wednesday at Crypto.com Arena. Tipoff is set for 10 p.m. ET on ESPN, with the Lakers needing one more victory to move on to the second round.
