NBA Commissioner Adam Silver confirmed on Sept. 10, 2025, that the league is investigating the Los Angeles Clippers for possible salary-cap circumvention but made clear he will not impose any penalties unless investigators uncover concrete evidence.
“I’m reluctant to act without facts,” Silver told reporters, emphasizing that the process must “run its course” before the NBA considers disciplinary measures.
The investigation centers on whether the Clippers violated league rules designed to keep teams from providing unauthorized compensation or benefits outside the collective bargaining agreement. Silver did not specify a timeline for the inquiry or detail the allegations but reiterated that the league would move only if investigators substantiate the claims.
Asked whether the situation could lead to draft-pick forfeitures, fines or other sanctions, the commissioner declined to speculate, saying the league’s response will depend entirely on the findings.
Silver’s comments come amid heightened scrutiny of teams’ compliance with salary-cap regulations, an issue the NBA has increasingly monitored in recent years.
