San Antonio Spurs coach Mitch Johnson said Saturday that Victor Wembanyama is still working through the NBA’s concussion protocol, leaving the rookie’s availability for Sunday’s Game 4 in Portland in doubt.

“We are still working through the process and continuing to work with the NBA,” Johnson told reporters after practice. The team listed the 7-foot-4 center as questionable, pending medical clearance.

Wembanyama entered the protocol on Tuesday after striking his head on the court during a hard fall late in the second quarter of Game 2. He was ruled out of Game 3 roughly 90 minutes before tip-off, despite completing most of his customary pre-game routine, including sprint work on the Moda Center floor.

“I’ve seen Victor now for three years, and when he’s not on the court, he’s always champing at the bit to get back,” Johnson said. “I know he’s doing everything he can to meet each step.”

The Spurs won Game 3 without their star, reclaiming home-court advantage in the first-round series. Under league policy, Wembanyama must clear multiple symptom-free benchmarks before he can return to play.
