Golden State and head coach Steve Kerr are taking a deliberate approach to determining whether their partnership will continue beyond this season, according to multiple reports.
Kerr, who just completed his 12th year on the Warriors’ bench, made clear after the postseason that he is not interested in coaching another NBA team. “I don’t want to walk away from Steph,” he said, referencing star guard Stephen Curry. “I’m definitely not going and coaching somewhere else next year in the NBA. I would never walk away from Steph, but all the stuff has to be aligned and right.”
Team direction, roster construction and Kerr’s long-standing connection with Curry are among the factors being evaluated. The coach has often pointed to his shared vision of the game with the two-time MVP as a key driver of the franchise’s success.
The organization is comfortable allowing the process to unfold. “It’s April,” a team source told ESPN. “We don’t need to rush.”
Kerr’s decision will play a central role in shaping Golden State’s offseason plan. While some around the league speculate he could eventually return to broadcasting, league insiders emphasize that any choice will hinge on whether the current situation with the Warriors still “fits.”
