Kansas freshman standout Darryn Peterson announced Friday that he will enter the 2026 NBA draft, where he is projected to be selected near the top of the first round in June.

Peterson revealed his decision in an Instagram post, thanking his teammates, friends, and family. “After much reflection and prayer, I am proud to announce my decision to declare for the NBA draft,” he wrote. “This has been my lifelong dream, and I am excited for the future. Rock chalk forever!”

The 6-foot-6 guard endured an injury-marred campaign in his lone season with the Jayhawks, appearing in 24 games. He averaged 20.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per contest and received honorable-mention All-America recognition.

Peterson is ranked No. 2 on ESPN’s draft board, trailing only BYU forward AJ Dybantsa.
