CAA basketball co-head Austin Brown has informed the Chicago Bulls that he will not seek the franchise’s top basketball operations post, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The Bulls had targeted the veteran agent for an interview after dismissing executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley earlier this month. Chicago hoped to meet with Brown early this week, but he opted out of the process before any formal discussions took place.
Brown represents one of the NBA’s deepest client lists, including Donovan Mitchell, Cooper Flagg, Jaren Jackson Jr., Trae Young, Myles Turner, Andrew Wiggins, OG Anunoby, Nic Claxton and Nickeil Alexander-Walker, among others.
Several high-profile agents have successfully moved into front-office roles—most notably former Warriors general manager Bob Myers, Lakers vice president Rob Pelinka and Knicks president Leon Rose. It is unclear whether Brown is uninterested in making a similar transition at this time or is simply passing on Chicago’s vacancy.
With Brown out of the picture, the Bulls are focusing on other candidates. Minnesota Timberwolves general manager Matt Lloyd is viewed as a frontrunner, while Dennis Lindsey, Bryson Graham, Mike Gansey and Dave Telep are also under consideration, per multiple reports.
Team officials began first-round interviews with prospective executives on Monday.
