The Philadelphia 76ers evened their second-round playoff series on Tuesday night, defeating the Boston Celtics 111-97 in Game 2 at TD Garden.
Rookie guard VJ Edgecombe set the tone early and finished with 30 points and 10 rebounds, leading a Philadelphia squad that again played without injured All-Star center Joel Embiid.
Tyrese Maxey added 29 points and nine assists, steadying the offense whenever Boston threatened to close the gap. The Celtics pulled within single digits several times, but Philadelphia repeatedly answered to maintain control.
Boston received productive nights from Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, yet the familiar second-half surge never materialized. Philadelphia’s defense contained each Boston run, allowing the visitors to dictate pace for most of the contest.
The result reversed the momentum from Game 1, when Boston dominated. With Tuesday’s win, the best-of-seven series is tied 1-1 heading to Philadelphia for Game 3.
