The Los Angeles Lakers opened their first-round series with a Game 1 win over the Houston Rockets without injured starters Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, yet both sidelined guards were on the practice floor Monday.

Head coach JJ Redick told reporters that Doncic’s presence after returning from Spain for treatment on his Grade 2 left hamstring strain has lifted the group.

“It’s been nice, it’s been really nice,” Redick said. “He definitely rebounded and passed on some shooting drills. I think having the group together two out of the last three days has been really nice.”

Doncic and Reaves, who is recovering from a Grade 2 left oblique injury, have no target dates for a return, but remain with the team during rehab. Their involvement, Redick added, has helped maintain the chemistry that carried the Lakers through the regular season.

Los Angeles relied on LeBron James’ playmaking and Luke Kennard’s outside shooting to secure the series opener, while defensive focus limited Houston’s scoring. With Doncic and Reaves unavailable, Redick said the Lakers will continue to lean on collective effort as they attempt to advance.
