Katowice, Poland — Luka Doncic can move into the EuroBasket record book on Monday when Slovenia meets Germany in the round of 16 of FIBA EuroBasket 2025.
The Los Angeles Lakers guard needs one more 30-point outing to tie Greek icon Nikos Galis for the most 30-plus point games in a single EuroBasket tournament since 1989. Galis hit the mark in all eight games he played during the 1987 event.
Slovenia reaches knockout stage behind Doncic’s 42-point outburst
Doncic powered an undermanned Slovenian squad past Italy in the final group game, scoring 42 points with 10 rebounds and three steals in a 95-90 upset that secured a place in the knockout bracket. The 26-year-old has been virtually unguardable throughout the competition, scoring at every level and living at the free-throw line for a roster that features no other NBA players.
Climbing the all-time scoring list
His scoring binge has already lifted him into the tournament’s top 50 career scorers, according to FIBA. Another big performance would not only equal Galis’s single-tournament mark but also improve Doncic’s standing on the historical list.
Showdown with NBA-laden Germany
Slovenia now faces a German team led by NBA players Franz Wagner, Dennis Schröder and Tristan da Silva. Germany enters as a favorite, yet Doncic’s presence gives Slovenia a chance for another surprise.
LeBron James shows support
Lakers teammate LeBron James highlighted Doncic’s 42-point effort against Italy on Instagram, underscoring how closely the organization is watching its star guard’s summer run.
Tip-off against Germany is set for September 8 at Spodek Arena. A 30-point night would put Doncic alongside Galis—and keep Slovenia’s improbable EuroBasket campaign alive.
