The Cleveland Cavaliers carried a 61–54 advantage into halftime of Saturday’s Game 1 against the Toronto Raptors at Rocket Arena.
Cleveland withstood Toronto’s physical start and found an offensive rhythm late in the second quarter. Guard James Harden paced the Cavaliers with 15 points and six assists, knocking down shots and repeatedly setting up the frontcourt tandem of Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen.
Defensively, the Cavaliers limited second-chance opportunities, an area the staff had highlighted before the postseason. Toronto shot 53 percent in the half, but Cleveland controlled the glass and prevented extended possessions.
Forward Brandon Ingram caused most of the Cavaliers’ problems, scoring 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting from mid-range. Rookie Jaylon Tyson picked up three quick fouls while trying to slow Ingram, including one call the Cleveland bench disputed.
The Raptors received unexpected perimeter production from Jamal Shead, who connected on three of his four attempts from beyond the arc. Cleveland appeared willing to live with those looks, focusing its defense elsewhere.
Donovan Mitchell added 13 points for the Cavaliers, while Max Strus contributed an understated 11. Mobley finished the half with nine points, and Allen scored six early before going quiet.
The second half will determine whether Cleveland’s defensive effort can withstand Toronto’s efficiency and secure an early series lead.
