Heat to Waive Terry Rozier Before Season Finale

The Miami Heat will release guard Terry Rozier on Friday, clearing the veteran before the end of the regular season, league sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Miami’s decision had been expected since March, when reports signaled the club intended to part ways with the 32-year-old before the postseason. Rozier has been away from the team for nearly the entire 2025-26 campaign after his October arrest tied to a federal probe into illegal gambling. He pleaded not guilty in December to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

The Heat kept Rozier on the 15-man roster through the trade deadline because his expiring $26.6 million contract could have been useful for salary-matching in a potential deal. No suitable trade materialized, and with the contract set to lapse and Rozier unavailable for the upcoming play-in tournament, Miami opted to open a roster slot.

Normally, players on expiring deals must be waived by Thursday to clear waivers before the season finale. Because all of Sunday’s games begin after 6:00 p.m. ET, anyone waived by 5:00 p.m. ET on Friday will clear in time for teams to add them ahead of their last game. Despite that window, no club is expected to claim Rozier.

Releasing Rozier will give the Heat one open spot, and local beat writers have recently mentioned the possibility of converting a two-way player to a standard contract. Guard Jahmir Young has appeared in 12 games, center Vladislav Goldin in seven, and guard Trevor Keels in six, making any of them candidates for a multiyear deal before Sunday’s roster deadline.
