DETROIT — The Detroit Pistons have converted forward Tolu Smith’s two-way contract into a standard NBA deal and released second-year forward Bobi Klintman to create the required roster spot.
Agent Corey Marcum told ESPN’s Shams Charania on Wednesday that Smith, 25, has agreed to a new two-year contract. According to the Detroit Free Press, the 2026-27 season will be non-guaranteed.
Smith went undrafted out of Mississippi State in 2024 and joined Detroit on a two-way pact in January 2025. He appeared in one game during the 2024-25 campaign and has logged 13 games so far this season, most recently contributing eight points and three rebounds in 13 minutes at Orlando on Monday.
The 6-11 forward has been a focal point for the Motor City Cruise, averaging 19.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.5 blocks across 26 G League contests while playing 28.7 minutes per night.
By moving Smith to the 15-man roster, Detroit ensures he is eligible for postseason play and gains additional depth in the frontcourt.
Klintman, 23, was selected 37th overall in the 2024 draft. He appeared in 20 NBA games over two seasons, including 12 this year, and did not have any guaranteed salary beyond 2025-26.
