LeBron James Reiterates Dislike for Playing in Memphis and Milwaukee

Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James on Saturday reaffirmed that Memphis and Milwaukee are the two NBA road cities he least enjoys visiting.

“Milwaukee was, too. Did they miss that one, too? They didn’t see that?” James said in an interview published by The Athletic. “Forty-one years old, it’s two cities I do not like playing in right now. That’s Milwaukee, and that’s Memphis.”

The four-time MVP was responding to criticism that followed a recent YouTube appearance in which he suggested the Memphis Grizzlies might consider relocating to Nashville. Addressing the backlash, James emphasized that his comments centered on travel preferences, not the cities’ residents.

“I’m not talking about the city, like the people in Memphis,” he explained. “I don’t like staying at the Hyatt Centric. What’s wrong with that?”

James added that even returning to his hometown can be a chore, underscoring his point that personal comfort, not civic pride, drives his opinion. “I don’t like going home either— and I’m from there,” he said. “People are ridiculous. They also get mad at my son [Bronny] being on the [Lakers], too. So what are we talking about? People need to figure out other ways to put their energy to other things that’s important.”

The Lakers continue their regular-season schedule this week, with road dates that do not include either Milwaukee or Memphis.
