Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo said Friday that he is healthy enough to return to the court but has not been cleared by the team, a situation that has prompted an NBA investigation into possible violations of the league’s player participation policy.

The two-time Most Valuable Player, sidelined since March 15 with a left calf strain, told reporters he considers himself “available” to play immediately. “I’m available to play right now. I’m available. Do I look like I’m not available?” Antetokounmpo said, according to The Athletic. “I don’t see myself in the first 12. I don’t see myself in the starting lineup.

Antetokounmpo expressed frustration with the organization’s decision, calling the directive to sit out “a slap in my face.” He added, “What are you telling me? The next time I’m going to play basketball is October? Why? I don’t want to do that. It’s almost like you waved the white flag and I don’t do that.

The NBA confirmed it is reviewing whether Milwaukee’s handling of Antetokounmpo complies with league rules on player availability and accurate injury reporting. The Bucks have not publicly detailed why the forward remains inactive despite his assertion of readiness.

Antetokounmpo said he hopes the team and player can “find an amicable solution” as the season progresses.
