Denver, CO – Nuggets guard Peyton Watson has been ruled “week to week” after aggravating a right hamstring injury, head coach David Adelman told reporters on Friday.
The 22-year-old will miss Saturday’s matchup with the San Antonio Spurs and is expected to remain out for multiple games. Watson left Wednesday’s victory over Utah in the first half because of tightness in the same hamstring that sidelined him for more than six weeks in February and March.
In his third NBA season, the former first-round pick is enjoying a breakout year, averaging 14.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 blocks across 29.6 minutes per contest. He is shooting 49.1% from the field and 41.1% from three while starting 40 of 54 appearances.
Denver has battled injuries throughout the campaign yet sits at 49 wins, holding the Western Conference’s No. 4 seed and potential first-round home-court advantage. With Watson sidelined, Cameron Johnson and Julian Strawther are expected to absorb most of his minutes.
The guard is slated to enter restricted free agency this summer.
