The Cleveland Cavaliers failed to match the Los Angeles Lakers’ intensity on Tuesday night, dropping a 127-113 decision on the road and looking listless for much of the contest.
Slow start sets the tone
Los Angeles seized control early, building a 12-point halftime cushion while Cleveland’s top scorers struggled. Donovan Mitchell went 1-for-6 in the opening two quarters and finished with 10 points on 4-of-10 shooting. Evan Mobley, who had poured in 34 points and 17 rebounds the previous night in Utah, managed only six points and four rebounds.
Allen’s early surge not enough
Center Jarrett Allen kept the Cavaliers close in the first half, connecting on 9-of-11 shots for 18 points overall, yet his impact waned as the Lakers pulled away after intermission.
Lakers capitalize on Cavs’ bad habits
Los Angeles dominated the hustle categories, repeatedly scoring on second chances and loose-ball situations. Luka Doncic led the hosts with 42 points, 12 assists and zero turnovers, while LeBron James added 14 points. James Harden supplied 17 points but recorded just three assists and no rebounds. Reserve big man Thomas Bryant contributed 14 points and six boards.
Cleveland’s recent schedule offers no cover
The Cavaliers (47-29) had won behind a stretch of lighter opponents, yet their issues on the glass, at the foul line and on perimeter defense resurfaced against the West-leading Lakers (50-26). “Mobley looks lost out there,” Lakers radio voice John Ireland said during the broadcast, underscoring Cleveland’s lack of cohesion.
With only six games remaining in the regular season, Cleveland must tighten its defense and address rebounding concerns to avoid repeat performances like Tuesday’s lethargic effort.
