Phoenix, AZ — Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks is expected to play Tuesday night against the Orlando Magic, head coach Jordan Ott confirmed after Monday’s win in Memphis.
Brooks, 30, has been sidelined since Feb. 21, when he fractured his left hand versus Orlando. The matchup at Kia Center will be the Suns’ second and final meeting with the Magic this season.
Before the injury, the first-year Sun had appeared in 50 games, posting career-best averages of 20.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.0 steal while shooting 44.0% from the field, 34.3% from three-point range and 85.6% at the foul line. He underwent surgery and was projected to miss four to six weeks; his return comes a little more than five weeks after the procedure.
Brooks and center Mark Williams (left foot stress reaction) took part in full 5-on-5 sessions Saturday and again Monday. “We got out of it alright,” Ott said pregame in Memphis. “Now you just have to see how it responds the day after. They’ve both taken steps. They’re just ready to play. We’re ready to have them.”
Williams, out since Mar. 3, is expected back later on the current trip, which continues Thursday in Charlotte and Sunday in Chicago.
Guard Grayson Allen (left knee injury management) missed Monday’s contest for precautionary reasons on the front end of a back-to-back. Forwards Haywood Highsmith (right knee injury management) and Amir Coffey (left ankle sprain) remained inactive, marking Highsmith’s sixth and Coffey’s fifth straight absences.
