San Francisco — The Golden State Warriors mounted an aggressive bid to acquire Los Angeles Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard just before the NBA trade deadline, league insider Marc Stein reported.

According to Stein’s newsletter, The Stein Line, Golden State pushed hard to land the two-time Finals MVP, but the Clippers declined to engage in a deal and kept Leonard on their roster.

The move underscores the Warriors’ commitment to maximizing their current championship window while Stephen Curry enters the later stages of his career. Team executives are expected to keep Leonard on their radar should the Clippers entertain offers during the offseason.

Stein added that should Leonard become available this summer, Golden State is widely viewed as a leading candidate to re-enter negotiations. The organization has adopted an all-in approach in recent years, consistently seeking high-impact talent to bolster its title chances.

No agreement materialized at the deadline, yet the Warriors’ overture signaled clear intent—and league observers anticipate the franchise will explore the possibility again if circumstances change in the coming months.
