Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green said Stephen Curry should not step back on the court until he feels completely certain about his recovering right knee.
“If he has an inkling of doubt, he shouldn’t play,” Green told reporters, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. “But if he’s healthy and he can play, then I’m all for it.”
Curry is scheduled for another medical evaluation in the coming days. The Warriors hope the assessment will clear the 35-year-old guard to rejoin a team currently holding a Western Conference play-in spot.
“You just know he wants to play. He wants to be out there,” Green said, acknowledging the importance of every postseason run at this stage of Curry’s career.
The uncertainty surrounding Curry’s timetable has raised concerns inside the locker room. “When he hasn’t come back yet, that’s when you start looking at the clock,” Green added. “Not like, ‘When’s he coming back?’ but more like, ‘What’s going on?’”
With Curry sidelined, Golden State’s margin for error has narrowed. The Warriors are juggling multiple injuries while trying to secure a playoff berth, and Green has shouldered additional leadership responsibilities. “You just can’t be the guy that quits when it gets tough,” he said. “When things go a little left, you can’t jump off the train.”
