Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James said he is convinced his son, Bronny James, “belongs” in the league, crediting the guard’s steady progress in his second NBA season.
Speaking to The Athletic, LeBron reflected on the younger James’ path since the Lakers selected him 55th overall in the 2025 NBA Draft. “I’m super proud of him,” LeBron said. “And he belongs. He belongs.”
Bronny’s rookie year was limited while he rebuilt his conditioning after suffering cardiac arrest at USC. According to LeBron, the 20-year-old now feels as confident as he did before the incident. “Physically, mentally, spiritually, emotionally, he’s back,” the four-time MVP noted.
The Lakers eased Bronny’s workload last offseason, restricting his minutes in Summer League and gradually increasing his time on the court. During the 2025-26 campaign, he has appeared mostly in late-game situations and filled in when injuries created openings. Coaches and teammates praised his energy during a recent victory over the Indiana Pacers, even though his statistics were modest.
Bronny has said the Lakers view themselves as title contenders when healthy. Los Angeles has posted one of the league’s best records since the All-Star break.
While his role for the remainder of the season is uncertain, LeBron insists his son has already proven he can compete at the NBA level.
