The Milwaukee Bucks waived guard Cam Thomas on Monday night, less than two months after adding him to the roster, and simultaneously converted forward Pete Nance’s two-way contract into a standard NBA deal.

Thomas, 25, landed in Milwaukee on Feb. 8 after being released by the Brooklyn Nets. General manager Jon Horst had called the former first-round pick a key piece for both the present and future, and coach Doc Rivers compared Thomas to elite scorers Jamal Crawford and Lou Williams when the guard poured in 34 points off the bench on Feb. 11.

Production tapered off in the weeks that followed. Since Feb. 11, Thomas averaged 9.6 points on 41% shooting, 1.9 assists and 16 minutes per game while connecting on 22% of his three-point attempts. He appeared in 18 contests overall for Milwaukee, which is fighting to stay in the Eastern Conference play-in hunt.

Nance, 25, has become a steady contributor during that stretch. The 6-foot-10 forward has logged a career-high 37 games this season, averaging 15.3 minutes, 5.2 points on 56% shooting—including 48% from beyond the arc—and 2.7 rebounds since the start of February.

The roster move leaves Milwaukee with increased frontcourt depth as the regular season enters its final weeks.
