MIAMI, Fla. — Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic recorded a career-high 60 points on Thursday night, powering a 128-116 victory over the Miami Heat at Kaseya Center and extending the Lakers’ winning streak to eight games.

Doncic’s performance capped a dominant two-week run in which he is averaging 40.9 points over eight contests. During that span, he has topped 30 points in every game, hit the 40-point mark four times, and surpassed 50 twice.

“You see everybody celebrating on the bench, it shows that we care a lot about each other,” Doncic told Spectrum SportsNet after the game. “That’s what great teams do. It just makes my heart happy seeing them celebrate my 60-point game.”

The Lakers have won 11 of their last 12 outings and, since Feb. 28, own the NBA’s No. 2 offense, No. 8 defense and No. 3 net rating. Improved locker-room chemistry has paralleled their surge up the Western Conference standings.

Head coach JJ Redick endorsed Doncic’s Most Valuable Player candidacy following Thursday’s win. While Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is widely viewed as the MVP front-runner, Redick said Doncic belongs in the conversation if he sustains his current level of play. At minimum, the 27-year-old is positioned for his sixth All-NBA First Team selection.

Los Angeles remains focused on carrying its momentum into the postseason, where potential matchups against the Thunder or San Antonio Spurs could test the club’s championship aspirations.
