Wizards Schedule Next Evaluation of Anthony Davis’ Hand for Late March

The Washington Wizards said Thursday that forward Anthony Davis underwent a follow-up examination on the ligament damage in his left hand in Los Angeles and is “progressing positively.” The team noted, however, that the volar plate tissue in the hand has not fully healed.

According to the club, Davis will continue conservative treatment and gradually increase basketball activity as tolerated. A new evaluation is set for the end of March.

Washington acquired the 32-year-old at the February trade deadline, and reports immediately conflicted over whether he would play again this season. While several outlets indicated his 2025/26 campaign might be over, general manager Will Dawkins told reporters he expects Davis back before the regular-season finale on April 12.

The Wizards own the NBA’s second-worst record at 16-53. With a top-eight protected first-round pick at stake and draft lottery odds to consider, wins down the stretch are not the club’s priority. Even so, the front office recently activated guard Trae Young after a long injury layoff, signaling a desire to develop chemistry between veterans and the young core before the season ends.

Whether Davis suits up again in 2025/26 remains uncertain. If his hand heals in time and Washington’s lottery position appears secure, he could see limited action in the closing games.

Before the trade, Davis appeared in 20 contests for Dallas, averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.7 blocks across 31.3 minutes per game.
