The San Antonio Spurs became the NBA’s second team to lock up a 2026 postseason spot, rallying past the Phoenix Suns on Thursday behind a late-game heroics from rookie standout Victor Wembanyama.
Wembanyama delivered a turnaround jumper with 1.1 seconds left, capping a 34-point, 12-rebound performance in 35 minutes and giving San Antonio a 52-18 record. Phoenix, out of timeouts, could only manage a half-court heave from Devin Booker that missed as the buzzer sounded.
The victory assures San Antonio at least the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference. The Spurs trail conference-leading Oklahoma City by three games, while Phoenix (39-31) sits seventh, now 13 games back of San Antonio with only 12 contests remaining—too few to erase the gap.
This marks the Spurs’ first playoff appearance since 2019, when they fell to Denver in a seven-game first-round series. No players from that 2019 roster remain on the current squad.
San Antonio opened the season 23-7, endured a 9-9 stretch from Dec. 27 through Jan. 31, and has since surged, winning 20 of its last 22 games.
