NEW YORK — Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. will be out a minimum of two weeks after an MRI on Wednesday showed a strained left hamstring, the team announced Thursday.

The timeline means the Nets could be without their leading scorer for the remainder of the season, which ends in just over three weeks. Brooklyn said Porter’s condition will be re-evaluated in two to three weeks.

Porter had already sat out the past three games because of a sprained right ankle. The hamstring setback comes during the most productive campaign of his career: he is averaging 24.2 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists in his first year with the Nets.

Brooklyn, in the midst of a five-game skid, owns a 17-52 record — third worst in the NBA — as it positions for the draft lottery. The franchise acquired Porter last summer after his role in the Denver Nuggets’ 2023 championship run.
