LOS ANGELES — LeBron James believes that embracing a role-player mindset at this stage of his career is strengthening both the Los Angeles Lakers and his own enduring legacy.
The 41-year-old forward said he is intentionally deferring to younger teammates, concentrating on defense, rebounding and off-ball movement instead of carrying the bulk of the scoring load every night. “Whatever the team needs, that’s what I’m going to do,” he noted, emphasizing that winning remains his top priority.
James added that the adjustment is designed to keep him fresh for the postseason push while allowing emerging contributors to develop confidence in critical moments.
Los Angeles continues its road trip Monday against the Houston Rockets, where James is expected to maintain the same team-first approach he says is essential for a deep playoff run.
