The Golden State Warriors and restricted free agent forward Jonathan Kuminga remain locked in a contract standoff with training camp just weeks away.

NBC Sports Bay Area’s Dalton Johnson reports that Kuminga is currently leaning toward signing his $7.9 million qualifying offer, a move that would allow him to hit unrestricted free agency in 2026.

Golden State has proposed a two-year package worth roughly $45 million, insisting the second season be a team option. Kuminga’s representatives are pushing for a player option instead, and neither side has budged.

The impasse could end if the Warriors drop their team-option demand or restructure the deal by front-loading salary, according to the report. Opting for the qualifying offer carries risk for both parties: Kuminga’s market value could fall if he is left out of Steve Kerr’s rotation or suffers a serious injury, while the Warriors would inherit a no-trade clause for 2025-26 and lose his Bird rights, preventing them from recouping assets.

Golden State has also cooled on sign-and-trade discussions after recent proposals from the Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns failed to meet the club’s price, Johnson adds.

Roster in Limbo

The contract stalemate is complicating the Warriors’ offseason plans. The team currently lists nine players on standard contracts—only seven fully guaranteed—and has just one two-way slot filled. Both of Golden State’s 2025 draft picks remain unsigned, leaving the front office effectively frozen until Kuminga’s situation is resolved.
