PHILADELPHIA — Imaging on Tyrese Maxey’s sprained right pinky confirmed the Philadelphia 76ers guard did not sustain any fractures, head coach Nick Nurse said Monday before the club’s road game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The injury occurred with 16 seconds left in Saturday’s 126-116 loss to the Atlanta Hawks when Maxey collided with teammate Adem Bona. The All-Star immediately clutched his hand and headed to the locker room.

According to Nurse, X-rays and an MRI showed no broken bones. Maxey had already been ruled out through Tuesday, when Philadelphia hosts the Memphis Grizzlies.

“No breaks,” Nurse said. “Now, he’s got to see the hand specialists to figure out what’s next.”

Maxey sprained the same pinky last season, something Nurse acknowledged “adds to the concern factor.” The sixth-year pro leads the NBA with 1,767 total points and is averaging career bests of 29.0 points, 4.1 rebounds and 6.7 assists in 61 games. Philadelphia has slipped to eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings.

“He seems OK and his spirits are good,” Nurse added. “He wants to be back, but he’s got to see these people before we take the next step.”
