The Los Angeles Lakers released their latest injury report ahead of Sunday afternoon’s game at Madison Square Garden, designating LeBron James (left elbow contusion, left foot arthritis) and Maxi Kleber (lumbar back strain) as questionable, while confirming Deandre Ayton (left knee soreness) will be available.
James and Ayton were hurt during Thursday’s loss to the Denver Nuggets and missed Friday’s contest against the Indiana Pacers. Head coach JJ Redick previously described both situations as day-to-day, and Ayton’s clearance suggests his absence will be limited to one game. James’ status remains uncertain until game time.
Kleber has sat out the last two games after a back injury led to an MRI, which showed no significant damage. The forward is also considered day-to-day.
Sunday’s meeting with New York begins a challenging stretch for Los Angeles, which has struggled against the league’s top teams this season. Having Ayton back adds front-court depth, and the Lakers are hopeful James and Kleber can bolster the rotation against the Knicks.
James Reflects on Latest Milestone
In his most recent appearance, James became the NBA’s all-time leader in made field goals. Speaking after setting the mark, the 23-year veteran said, “Just having my name linked to some of the greatest to ever play this game is humbling. I grew up idolizing a lot of those legends, and it’s pretty cool to be mentioned alongside them.”
The Lakers and Knicks tip off Sunday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
