The Toronto Raptors’ NBA G League affiliate, Raptors 905, selected guard Markelle Fultz off the waiver wire after the 2017 No. 1 overall draft choice finalized a G League contract, according to Sportsnet.
Fultz, 27, has appeared in 255 regular-season NBA games across eight years with Philadelphia, Orlando and Sacramento. His most recent stint came with the Kings in 2024-25, where he averaged 2.9 points and 1.3 assists in 8.8 minutes over 21 contests.
Early-career shoulder problems altered Fultz’s shooting mechanics. While he knocked down 41.3% of his three-point attempts during his sole college season at Washington, he has connected on only 28.0% (83-of-296) of his tries in the NBA.
Raptors 905 turned to Fultz after losing significant back-court depth. Over the past week, Julian Reese, Olivier Sarr and David Roddy all signed two-way deals with other NBA clubs, leaving the Mississauga-based squad shorthanded.
Toronto’s front office is monitoring Fultz’s performance. The Raptors hold an open 15th roster spot and would prefer to fill it with a guard who has NBA experience, sources told Sportsnet. Golden State’s Lester Quinones is another player under consideration.
The Raptors are operating roughly $900,000 below the luxury-tax threshold, giving them flexibility to sign a player for the remainder of the season without incurring tax penalties. However, guard Immanuel Quickley earns a $500,000 bonus if the team reaches the Eastern Conference Finals. To safeguard against becoming a taxpayer should that incentive be triggered, Toronto is expected to wait until mid-March before making a roster addition.
If no suitable veteran emerges, elevating one of the club’s two-way players remains an alternative, league sources said.
