NEW ORLEANS — Since reentering the Pelicans’ rotation after the All-Star break, 37-year-old center DeAndre Jordan has started five times and logged double-digit minutes in each of New Orleans’ last six games. The former All-Star appeared only twice during the season’s opening week and did not play again for more than three months.
Interim head coach James Borrego credited Jordan’s professionalism and communication for lifting a roster that dropped 31 of its first 39 games. “He’s the first one to show up,” Borrego said. “He’s wrapped his arms around the vets, wrapped his arms around the young guys, and brought us an edge and a physicality.”
Jordan, now in his 18th NBA season, said he embraces a mentor’s role. “Whenever my number is called, I’ll be ready to play,” he noted. “On the days I’m not playing, I encourage my teammates and give them knowledge back.” Reaching 20 seasons remains one of his personal goals.
Pelicans Injury Report
Guard Dejounte Murray, who has scored at least 13 points in each of his four games since returning from an Achilles tear, will miss Thursday’s contest against Sacramento as he continues “return-to-competition conditioning.” Forwards Trey Murphy III (neck spasm) and Zion Williamson (right ankle sprain) are listed as questionable.
Rockets See Growth in Reed Sheppard
With starters Amen Thompson and Jabari Smith Jr. sidelined, second-year guard Reed Sheppard has thrived in an expanded role. “My teammates are giving me the space to grow, and they’re pushing me to be aggressive,” Sheppard told The Athletic. Both outlets report the Rockets are assessing how his newfound confidence will translate once the lineup is healthy.
Prosper Contract Details
The Grizzlies’ new two-year minimum deal with Olivier-Maxence Prosper carries a team option for 2026-27. The rookie forward will earn $527,879 for the remainder of this season, while the option year is valued at $2,497,812.
