Los Angeles Lakers Add Michael Spetner as First Chief Strategy and Growth Officer

The Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday named longtime Los Angeles Dodgers executive Michael Spetner as the franchise’s first Chief Strategy and Growth Officer, a newly created position focused on long-term business strategy and international expansion.
Spetner joins the NBA club after a decade with the Dodgers, where he most recently served as vice president of business strategy and analytics. His new role places him in charge of identifying global growth opportunities, enhancing fan experiences and driving overall commercial value for the Lakers.
“As we look to redefine what’s possible across the sports landscape for fans and partners, we will build on the Lakers’ legacy and orient toward the future to consider what’s next,” Lakers president of business operations Lon Rosen said in a statement. “Michael’s leadership will help us optimize our business to ensure long-term value.”
During his tenure with the Dodgers, Spetner helped modernize the club’s fan ecosystem by integrating in-stadium initiatives with digital communities. He also led several international projects, including the launch of a Japan-based fan club and a museum-style exhibition in Tokyo that showcased the team’s history and global appeal.
The move continues a trend of collaboration between the Lakers and Dodgers since Mark Walter became controlling owner of both organizations. Rosen and Spetner previously worked together in baseball and now aim to replicate that commercial success in basketball.
Rosen noted the worldwide popularity of Lakers superstar guard Luka Doncic as a major asset in the club’s expansion plans. “He’s one of the most popular players in the world, and we want to jump on his shoulders and see what we can reach out there,” Rosen said.
Spetner is expected to begin his duties immediately as the Lakers look to strengthen their brand in existing markets and explore new international ventures.
