Los Angeles — Former NBA center and current ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins delivered a harsh assessment of LeBron James during Tuesday’s edition of Pardon the Interruption, declaring that the Los Angeles Lakers star “has one foot in the grave, the other on a banana peel.”

Perkins, who played alongside James on the 2014-15 Cleveland Cavaliers, argued on the program that the 41-year-old forward is effectively finished for the remainder of the season and suggested James is merely “waiting on the season to be over so he can leave the Lakers.”

Statistical Dip in Year 23

James is averaging 21.6 points per game, the second-lowest mark of his career behind his 20.9-point rookie campaign. His 5.6 rebounds per contest are a personal low, while he is also contributing roughly seven assists a night. Now in his NBA-record 23rd season, the four-time MVP is still producing, but Perkins said the visible decline in athleticism — including missed dunks and rim attempts — shows that “Father Time” is finally catching up.

Lakers Mirror Their Star’s Struggles

Los Angeles opened the schedule 16-5 but has since slipped to sixth place in the Western Conference. The club is 5-5 over its last 10 games, raising the possibility of an early postseason exit.

Future in Question

If James departs Los Angeles and continues playing, he would extend his own record to 24 seasons. Perkins noted that such longevity would be remarkable, even as he questioned how effective James can remain.
