Washington guard Trae Young was ejected Monday night before logging a single minute with the Wizards, leaving the bench area during a late-game altercation in a 123-118 home loss to the Houston Rockets.

Young, who was not in uniform while recovering from right-leg MCL and quad injuries, stepped onto the floor in the fourth quarter after Houston’s Tari Eason and Washington rookie Jamir Watkins became entangled. After directing remarks at an official, the four-time All-Star was assessed a technical foul and sent to the locker room. Eason was also ejected.

The incident occurred only hours after Young posted on social media that he plans to make his Wizards debut Thursday against the Utah Jazz. Head coach Brian Keefe said the team expects the 25-year-old to play 17–20 minutes in that game.

Young, out since Dec. 27, jokingly told fans online, “Don’t expect me to get ejected too many more times D.C… but I’m definitely bringing that energy & competitiveness when I’m back for my brothers!”

Washington fell to 16-44 with Monday’s defeat, firmly entrenched in a rebuilding season as it awaits Young’s official on-court debut.
