The Philadelphia 76ers announced that rookie big man Johni Broome underwent a partial meniscectomy on Saturday to repair a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee. Team doctors will reevaluate the injury in four weeks.
Broome, selected 35th overall in the 2025 NBA Draft, suffered the tear one week earlier while playing for the Delaware Blue Coats during a G League matchup. After weighing multiple treatment options, the 23-year-old opted for surgery.
The 6-foot-10 center/forward has appeared in 11 games for Philadelphia this season, logging limited minutes. With Delaware, he has averaged 21.8 points, 8.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.2 steals while shooting .463/.287/.656 across 26 contests (32.8 minutes per game).
Broome is in the first season of a four-year standard contract. His $2.15 million salary for next season is fully guaranteed, while his $2.5 million salary for 2027-28 is non-guaranteed. Philadelphia also holds a $2.7 million team option for 2028-29.
